Chatterbooks

Belmont has had its first 'Chatterbooks' reading group this year, led by Sasha Corcashvili.  The children in the group were all from Year 5 and they have throughly enjoyed reading and discussing books together.

"Recently a group of Year 5s and I have been looking at the shortlist of books for the Hounslow Book Awards and have enjoyed meeting up in the library on Thursday every week.

Unfortunately we couldn'’t go to the awards as Year 5 were going on a trip to Affinity Water treatment. on the same day.

The shortlist contains: 'Whale Boy' by Nicola Davies; 'LexiLand 'by Suzi Moore; 'The mysterious adventures of Clemency Wiggleworth'; 'Baddies, Beasties and a sprinkling of crumbs' by Tracey Corderoy and 'The Mystery Of Wickworth Manor' by Ellen Caldecott.

On Tuesday the book awards took place and were actually very surprising to the group as we liked 'Whale Boy' the best, then 'LexiLand', then 'Baddies Beasties and a sprinkling of crumbs'. The results were in this order:

3rd place: Whale Boy

2nd place: LexiLand

And in 1st place was:    Baddies Beasties and a sprinkling of crumbs"

Although the group were unable to attend the awards ceremony itself, the children had the opportunity to share their opinions about the books  with visitors from the Hounslow Library Service who kindly came to Belmont especially to hear what they had to say.  They were royally entertained with tea, including homemade cake and biscuits.

The group's final sessions for the year included presentations from the members to one another at a special meeting in the Wilderness Garden.
