Y3 – Latest Class Notices

This noticeboard will be updated on Wednesday afternoons to share homework and keep you updated with life in Year 3.

A few reminders for the start of the year:

  • PE is on Thursdays and Fridays. Please ensure your child is wearing their PE kit on these days.
  • Library day is Tuesday. On this day, your child can bring in their library book and change it. If they have not finished it they do not need to change it.
  • Your child can select a book from the class reading corner any time to be taken home. When your child has finished it, they must return it to the classroom before taking a new one.
  • Please ensure your child has their green reading record in their bag on Mondays with three written entries completed by an adult (preferably) or your child. Comments in the reading record can be about your child’s e-book (which we have not set yet – more on this to come), their class reading corner book, or their library book.
  • We are still in need of glue sticks (non-coloured ones). We would appreciate any donations to our classroom supply.
  • Please ensure you adhere to the school uniform policy. You can find our policy here:

School Uniform Policy

  • Home School Partnership meetings take place this evening. The Headteacher’s introduction will be at 5:30pm and the class meetings will take place from 6:00 to 6:30pm and from 6:30 to 7:00pm. After meeting with the class teacher please try to pop along to the canteen to try some samples and to find out all about the great work carried out by our PTA.
  • We will be going on a trip to the Natural History Museum on Monday 20th October to support our Active Planet topic. If you have your DBS and are  interested in volunteering, please get in touch with the school office to let them know.
  • Ukulele lessons have begun. We have sent home a letter offering the chance to borrow a school ukulele this year. If you would like your child to borrow a ukulele whilst in Year 3 and you have not sent back your signed letter, please complete it and send in the form to your class teacher.
  • The Year 3 Google Classrooms have now been set up. Please remember to refer to these for Knowledge Organisers along with other useful things such as links to Maths homework activities.
  • Initial reading assessments are now complete and the Guided Reading groups began this week and online reading books were issued on Monday.
  • Please remember that most children will be issued their online reading book in a three week cycle as per Year 2.
  • Please note that Smart Watches are not allowed to be worn by pupils at Belmont and refer to our school uniform policy as per the link above.
  • Next Thursday is National Poetry Day. Please encourage your child to bring in their favourite poem to share.
  • Black History Month takes place in October. To celebrate this, Year 3 will take part in a drumming workshop next Thursday.
  • New log in sheets have been provided so please use the up to date copy. Most logins are the same as before but some log in passwords/username have to change each year so please note that you have a new Little Wandle eCollins login for reading books and a new Discovery Education QR code.
  • FOR ART! Next week the children will create sculptures once more using cardboard. Please send in any cardboard boxes you may have; parcel boxes, food packaging boxes, amazon envelopes … any cardboard would be gratefully received. Thank you!

Thank you to everyone that attended the Home School Partnership evening. A copy of the slides are available on Google Classroom for any parents or carers that weren’t able to attend.

Please find links to the book list that has a variety of books that we would love to have in class. Please check the list to ensure that the book that you would like to donate is one that we don’t already have.

These books will be stamped to show they have been generously donated them and shared with all the class.

Word Aware

Our topic this term is ‘Active Planet’

The below list is part of an initiative called Word Aware that we are using in school. We thought it would be helpful to share this list with you so that you can use some of these words at home when discussing the topic. If your child speaks a different language at home, it would be helpful to discuss and translate these words using your home language. We may add to this list during the topic as new words are introduced.

As you may be aware Belmont uses a cursive handwriting scheme for those children who can consistently form all non-cursive letters correctly.
Here is a link to the handwriting guidelines to enable you to support your children practising letter formation at home.
