Becky Adlington visits Belmont!
On 21st October we welcomed a second Olympic gold medalist to Belmont. Having had the opportunity last year to meet our local gold medalist, rower Pete Reed, in whose honour the postbox is painted, we were privileged this year to have a visit from swimmer, Rebecca Adlington, double gold medal winner at the Beijing Olympics.
Becky was visiting us as one of three primary schools in the Chiswick area. This was arranged through our sports partnership, Sport Impact. She was accompanied by Adrian Turner, British Champion and Olympian in Athens in 2004. Becky answered questions from children and staff about her achievements, training, diet, inspiration etc. even describing what goes through her head as she races over 800m amongst cheering crowds. She is keen to champion swimming lessons for children and has set up four ‘Swim Stars’ centres across the country including one in West London.
