Belmont Election Fever

Hot on the heels of the country going to the polls, Year 6 held their own elecion on Friday, as Year 4 & 5 voted for their choice of party. Year 6 had created parties, chosen a leader and deputy leader. From there they developed a manifesto and what their key focus points were. Finally they started campaigning and we saw posters up around the school, rosettes on jumpers and impressives speeches to the electorate.

Issues that they had thought through and felt strongly about were far ranging from free university places to stopping animal cruelty, from more PE in schools to putting an end to the stop and search powers of the police.  They all agreed that greater equality was critical, as well as looking after the environment and the NHS. It was impressive how many issues they were aware of. It may take about 25 years, but there could well be some future politicians amongst the group!
