Borough champions

Following on from their success in the local cluster of schools, our Hi-5 netball team competed in the Hounslow Borough Championships.  They were undefeated on their way to the final with some resounding victories and one draw. The final was, by all accounts, nail-bitingly exciting, with a draw at full-time and then after extra time, so that the championship had to be decided by a 'Golden Goal'. Here is the girls' own account of the day:

On Tuesday 4th March the Belmont netball team went to Heathland School to compete in the Hounslow Borough finals, this was against many schools. Our first match, we powered through, making our first score of the day 6-0.  Our second game was tight but we managed to pull through, winning our next few matches and drawing with St Mary's Isleworth.

Then came the all important results for the semi finals, our hearts were pounding as the man bellowed out our team name.  Next we flew through the game against Marlborough scoring 6-0. Then it was the gripping FINALS! It was the closest game of our lives. Sweat trickled down our sweltering faces.  With just 10 seconds to spare Natasha scored an outstanding goal leading us to draw with our opponents [Victoria Junior School}. Then it was the GOLDEN GOAL but, unfortunately, it was Victoria’s centre pass.  We were panic stricken. Suddenly, Willow did a mesmerising interception, travelling us to Iris’s winning goal. The girls off leaped on to the court, screeching with joy  We were Hounslow champions!

Still drenched in sweat, our breathless voices thanked the sports leader. Our gleaming golden medals were placed around our necks as we gave a cheer of victory.

Congratulations to the team on such a splendid result.  They will continue to practise in preparation for the London Youth Games at the beginning of April, at which they will now represent the borough.
