Hounslow Summer Singing Festival

On Monday 4th July, the 45-strong Belmont Choir performed at the annual Summer Singing Festival in Hammersmith Town Hall.  This was the first of four nights of the festival and we were one of eight primary schools taking part in a massed choir of nearly 300 children. In all, over a thousand children from Hounslow schools performed across the week!

We arrived in time for a rehearsal with Emma Taylor, our conductor, and then had a break before the performance.  We were very excited to have been given the Council Chamber itself as our room in which to wait and leave our belongings.  This led to some impromptu role play and lively 'debate' before we went out to have tea and enjoy some 'downtime' in the park.

The programme included songs about creatures - our favourite being the 'Puffin' song - then three songs related to jazz, blues and rock'n'roll and finally a section on the theme of 'Facing the Future'. The enthusiasm of the whole choir, especially Belmont at the front in their sunshine yellow polo shirts, was evident from their beaming smiles as they danced, performed actions and sang their hearts out.

The programme also included music from the Hounslow Concert Strings ensemble with performers of both primary and secondary age and another choir which Emma Taylor conducts, the Disney Choir!  This was an adult choir made up of Disney employees who entertained us with a medley and 'Colours of the Wind' from Pocahontas.

All in all it was a wonderful evening which lifted the spirits of the audience of proud head teachers, parents and families.  We are especially grateful to Ms Todd for teaching the songs not only to the choir but also to all the juniors so that we could enjoy them together to the parents who accompanied us and to the Hounslow Music Service for arranging the event.
