Infant Sports Day

Our roving reporter, Maya from Year 6 was one of the senior helpers at this year's Infant Sports Day.

"On Thursday the 19th July the infants took part in sports day. Sports day was held on the common from 9:30am to 12:00pm. There was a running and obstacle race, also there was a carousel of activities which included: skipping, dribbling a football, throwing beanbags into a hoop and balancing a tennis ball on a racket. Paddy from Year 2 said ‘It was really comforting having people cheering for me while I ran.’ Mia in Year 2 said,‘I liked the running race because I was against my friend.’ Harry from Year 1 said, ‘I liked the obstacle race because it was fun!’

As well as the infants racing, parents, toddlers and even Year 6s raced! After all the races there was a delicious picnic in the park."

Sports Day for the infants is lots of fun and the children get to try out many different activities, from running to skipping, dribbling footballs and balancing. The obstacle race sees them holding on to hats as they race the last part of the track. As the older children get increasingly competitive, the younger ones look slightly bewildered at times at all the noise and fuss. However they soon get the hang of it.

The parents' race was lots of fun and we added a beanbag this year that had to be balanced on your head for the duration of the race.  Then it was picnic time as the sun continued to shine.
