London's burning

On Tuesday 16th September, Apricots and Damsons classes met 'Samuel Pepys' and helped him recreate his famous account of the Great Fire of London.  The cast of characters included the King, Charles II, Thomas Farriner the baker and the Mayor of London, as well as large numbers of townsfolk, all somewhat dirty and dishevelled from the fire!   The action moved from Pudding Lane through the London streets to old St Paul's and the river.

It has been lovely to see the children building on this workshop in subsequent lessons as they worked together to produce a timeline of the events of that fateful day and later they produced their own models and games as homework to share what they have learnt.  One of them has even challenged children from Year 6 to solve his quizzes, which they confirm to be very challenging, requiring them to draw on knowledge from four years ago!

Thank you to Rainbow Theatre for the workshop and the BHSA for funding it for us.  Thanks are also due to all the Year 2 parents who have encouraged such creativity at home and doubtless allowed a good deal of mess of glue and yellow/orange tissue paper!
