Running a daily mile

Four classes at Belmont School have started ‘The Daily Mile’ running once or twice weekly for 15 minutes around the playground counting their laps each time they participate. Moving forward, more classes will join this fitness initiative with the goal of running multiple mornings every week.

The aim of the Daily Mile is to improve the physical, emotional and social health and wellbeing of our children – regardless of age or personal circumstances. Its impact can be transformational, improving not only the children’s fitness, but also their concentration levels, mood, behaviour and general wellbeing. The Daily Mile allows children to assess their own fitness levels in addition to becoming aware of the progress they make by simply keeping track of the laps around the playground they run each morning they engage in the running activity. Most children have already achieved running a mile (5 times around the playground route plus 1/3 of a lap) and we have only been doing it for one week! Well done to the children who have started The Daily Mile and the journey to improving their fitness!
