Stand out for Guide Dogs!

A great day that was proposed and planned by a group of children from Year 5. The whole school made a huge effort and from the photos below there was a lot of standing out. Special mention should go to the staff for embracing neon as if it were the 1980's all over again. You know who you are!

The day started with a collection in the playground as everyone came into school in their brightest clothes. Classes then had the opportunity to take part in a blind obstacle course set up in the middle hall. Children were blindfolded and then 'guided' around by a partner who could see. Very funny to watch as the children doing the guiding found out it wasn't as easy as it looked.

Our very special guests from the Guide Dogs Association arrived after lunch, and held two assemblies for the children. They talked about the role of a guide dog, the difference they made to lives and the training they go through. A demonstration followed where the dogs behaved impeccably of course.

As the day came to an end, a second hand book sale and cake sale took place in the playground, again organised by Year 5. Over £772.74 was raised for this charity and special thanks go to Ruby, Ella, Rosie, Esme, Freya, Helen and Imogen from Year 5.
