The Romans are coming!

On Friday 19th June Year 3 had their Roman day! The children dressed up as Romans, it is like we stepped back in time! Everyone had a chance to cook and prepare our Roman dishes in the cookery for our feast. Some children made bread first thing in the morning. When we were making the bread, it did not smell that good. But after a long wait, it smelled really, REALLY good! We also cooked pears with honey. We put dollops of honey all over them and put them in the oven to roast. They looked strange after they were cooked, but they tasted good. All day everyone said the food smelled so good!

After Willow and Elm cut up the carrots and pears and the bread was baking, four people from Rainbow Theatre came in for our workshop. During the workshop we were put into groups and we all had a part to play. Some children were school children, some were slaves, some were soldiers and some were even ‘snail boys’! After we all practiced our parts, we all got to watch the show. The show was very fun because everyone was doing something. There were some really funny parts!

After the workshop we had our Roman feast. We sat in a long line in the hall on cushions. We ate bread, chicken, dates stuffed with apricots, grapes, olives and pears drizzled with honey. The bread was really good but we had to eat it, and everything else, with our hands! Today was a day we will never forget!
